Dedicated to the rights of immigrants, L'effort nécessaire is the final article by Jean Jaurès, the renowned leader of the French Socialist Party and founder of the newspaper L'Humanité. He was assassinated on 31 July 1914, shortly after the article's publication, by a nationalist extremist.
